Many of Tincan’s programs include video production.
Making a quality video is much more than pointing a camera and shooting what you see. We teach participants in our workshops the process necessary to make quality videos. The participants learn the importance of storyboarding the video and using good lighting. They also learn different techniques in filming such as the angle of the shot and how to get good sound. Participants use industry-level software to edit their films. While Tincan’s video programs have traditionally focused on youth, we have begun to increase our video production offerings for adult learners.

F4C Film4Change (2011)
Film4Change is a Tincan project funded by the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) that challenges Spokane teens to create a fictional film about poverty. The participating teens will work with Tincan staff and local film professionals during the summer and over the course of the school year to craft the 20-30 minute film that focuses on two brothers who deal with the harsh realities of being poor.

Science Journalism Pathways to STEM Careers (Science Reporters) (2011)
The Science Journalism Pathways Project introduces middle-school girls to critical thinking, investigative journalism and careers in science-related occupations. Tincan staff work with teachers and students to analyze articles, identify the science in them and then create their own investigative story on the subject, which is turned into a video.
