AT&T
The AT&T summer program was a huge success. The students chose some very interesting business ideas that ranged from a bike shop that focused on community involvement to a gym focusing on training for mixed martial arts. Not only did they come up some great business ideas, but for the first time they actually wrote a full business plan. While focusing on developing their business plans, they were also focusing on web development. They each made a website for their business idea, these websites included information about their business and themselves. To finish out the week everyone made a few commercials about their business. The culmination of everything they learned came during the last two days of the program when the students produced two short films that tackled the topic of business ethics. Overall the program was a ton of fun and the students really produced some fantastic work.

This e-commerce project was funded by a grant from AT&T and focused on ninth-grade boys. Students met twice weekly after school to identify a business they are interested in and that benefits the community.
Paired with a business mentor, they developed their own business plan, learned what kind of education is needed to handle the business, and explored issues such as financial management and insurance. They also produced a short video about their mentor’s business.
