RSSIT - Science Education
The Rural School Science and Information Technology (RSSIT) program gives secondary school science teachers the skills to use Geographic Information Systems (GIS), computer modeling and simulation and video game development in the classroom. The summer workshops focus on using the technology with environmental sciences. Teachers practice their skills with students during summer science camps and after-school science clubs before implementing them in their own science classroom. The RSSIT program is funded by the National Science Foundation.
WIBIT - Science Education
WIBIT focuses on integrating biotechnology and information technology in an after-school program for middle school girls. The program has separate 7th and 8th grade curricula. The 7th grade girls make a biotech product (soda pop) and record their experiments in fermentation, flavoring, amounts of sugar, and other variables as they work toward producing their final product. Their scientific observations are used to describe their product in the e-commerce site the they develop to sell their soft drink. The 8th grade girls learn forensic biology and biotechnology techniques, such as analysis of blood at a "crime scene". Their final product is a computer mystery game that incorporates the use of scientific techniques in solving crime.
Memories History Project
Inland Northwest Memories is a regional database of electronic versions of Inland Northwest historical documents, contributed by cultural institutions from around the region, from their own locations. The Inland Northwest is usually defined as eastern Washington, northern Idaho, northeastern Oregon, and western Montana. The database currently emphasizes documents from northeastern Washington and North Idaho, Tincan's traditional service areas. It will expand in the future. It is an evolving project, and we encourage feedback.
Community Resource Directory
The purpose of this site is to provide a comprehensive list of social, health, education, training, and other resources in our community. The Public Access Site provides information about community resources, and can be searched directly by the general public at no cost.
Neighborhood College
The Neighborhood College provides online content that is useful to ordinary people in the Inland Northwest. Our mini-workshops cover topics of interest to our neighborhood residents such as car repair, stretching your budget, grassroots leadership, and simple energy conservation, as well as recreational topics such as genealogy and crafts. The emphasis is less on how to use the Internet, but on why you should use it. In these workshops, technology and the Internet become the tools that support your interests.
